On September 28, Riley's 2nd grade celebrated "The Green Corn Festival" to end their Native American unit study. The Native Americans were very grateful for their harvest so they would hold several festivals each year to say prayers of thanks to their gods. The Green Corn Festival was usually held in late summer/early fall to celebrate the sweet, ripened corn. Riley's class had a fun day dressing up like Native Americans, grinding corn, eating popcorn, making clay bowls, arrowhead necklaces, animal tracking bookmarks and playing Native American games.
